This existing house is located in Giethoorn, also known as the “Venice of the North” for its many canals and bridges. Due to the discovery of asbestos, many elements of the house needed to be replaced by the extension, leading the design itself to be focused around the serre. The new façade is constructed in a Japansese wood slat approach called Shou-sugi-ban. This construction technique makes the wood impervious to fungi and bacteria, minimizing maintenance and increasing its lifespan.
